Dear parents and students,
Percussion and Guard will begin summer practices on July 6-9, from 9am-noon. Full band will begin summer practices on July 13-16, 20-23 and 27-30 from 9am-noon. I do not have the teacher in-service training schedule yet but any rehearsal additions during August will be announced through the Remind app and on my teacher page. Also, our band handbook, grading procedure and other information is posted on my teacher page. Our schedule of events is updated regularly so please visit often. Here is the address: John Long Home, also known as https://www.bobcats.k12.ar.us/posts/john-long. Important communications will be most often handled through the Remind App so, be sure and sign up. The codes are: PRIDE Band = @wr-pride (for students) and Parents of PRIDE Band = @wr-ppride. Also, information is disseminated through Facebook. Please send a friend request to: The Walnut Ridge Band Parent Organization.
At practices, student should wear sensible shoes (no flip-flops) suitable for marching. Any student unable to attend any rehearsal(s) should contact me by email at: John.Long@bobcats.k12.ar.us, school phone (870.819.0474), or my cell (870.759.2038) as soon as possible. Students involved in Cheerleading, Volleyball, Tennis or Football, etc. are excused from band practice only when schedules conflict. Those students should plan to attend all band rehearsals during times when they are otherwise available.
Here are a few things to keep in mind: T-Shirts will be $20.00. Please bring T-Shirt money in August. Our uniforms for the first two games will be blue jeans, band T-Shirts and tennis shoes.
When we march in full uniform students must have solid black marching shoes with black socks for the performances. Marching shoes are $35.00 per pair. They have rounded heels designed specifically for marching bands. Shoe orders will be taken during the first week of school. Any other footwear has to be approved by me in advance.
There is no fee involved as far as being assigned a uniform, but there will be a fee for lost or damaged garments.
Can’t wait to see all of you soon!
John Long
